What sales jobs are available during the holiday season?
Although our economy looks a little grim right now and the fashion retail jobs aren’t in abundance as they were a few years ago, there are still new jobs in sales during this holiday season. While we all remember the days when there were more jobs than job-hunters, there are still jobs available for those who really want to work, it just may take a little more creativity to find those job openings as they may not always be retail store jobs.
Some of the new job openings available during the holiday season will, of course, revolve around gifts: wrapping gifts, shopping for gifts, shipping gifts. For example, usually near retail mall or department store entrances one can find a kiosk set up for wrapping gifts for various reasonable prices. The businesses that own those kiosks hire new people just for this purpose during the holiday season. Another great retail job this season is the personal shopper. Many people just don’t have the time to do their own shopping but want to give meaningful gifts rather than just a few bucks in a Christmas card, so they hire personal shoppers. If you might be interested in becoming a personal shopper, make some business cards on your home computer and start handing them out to local stores and area businesses. Also, one might consider placing an ad in the local newspaper announcing what services are offered through the personal shopping business. And, as always, there will always be a need for someone to ship gifts. This could even be incorporated in with being a personal shopper, include quotes for wrapping and shipping the gifts as well. Many people mean well, but unfortunately, just don’t have the personal time that they would like to put into their gift-giving, creating more jobs in an otherwise almost stagnant job market.
Some other ideas of retail jobs during the season would involve another very important aspect of holidays: parties. During this time of year, there is a much increased need for party planners, caterers, and even interior decorators to help get ready for the party. Party planners would, of course, plan a party, but you might be surprised just how well paid this occupation is during the holidays. Everyone loves a party, especially one that is well thought out and put together – flowing smoothly without a catch. Unfortunately, on the flip side of that coin, to choreograph a dream party takes a tremendous amount of time and effort, two things of which most people just never have enough. Enter the party planner. Whether the party is a simple family gathering or a huge corporate extravaganza, someone with an eye for details and good listening skills could really enter this holiday job market and hit the ground running.
While party planning can be a very lucrative career field, caterers are just as much, if not more so, in demand during this time of year. Who wants to work all week then on the weekends have to cook for a crowd of people coming over to celebrate the holidays? Why not just hire a caterer and leave all the details to them. On the other hand, if you are a good cook, enjoy making food ‘pretty’ and garnishing, and once again have an eye for detail and an ear for listening, catering would be a great job choice to consider during this holidays. Also, catering would be a business that could be started fairly easy over the holiday season but then continue throughout the remainder of the year as well into a promising and profitable full-time career.
And then if someone has hired a party planner and a caterer, do you really think they want the hassle of decorating their home or office themselves? Of course not. That’s where an interior decorator job for the holidays opens up. This one requires a little more skill than just an attention to detail and a good listening ear, in order to be a great interior decorator one must also have a good eye for fashion and design as well as color-coordinate varying shades really well. However, for those talented individuals who can look at a placemat and suddenly visualize the whole room blending together in various ways through the colors of that placemat, for instance, then what an exciting job opportunity awaits!
There are still even more opportunities that are either only available during the holiday season, or at least enjoy a dramatic rise in profits during this time. Those various categories would be things like hand-made goodies, anything from cookies and candy to furniture or woven baskets. Another would be making personalized gift baskets to display at flea markets or holiday open house events. While yet another service would be to provide personalized ‘holiday’ makeovers to clients just before they go out to a party or evening dinner.
There are so many potential jobs in the retail or service industry during the holidays. Although one may need to ignite their creative senses to figure out which job would suit them best, there is an abundance of services offered only during this holiday time.
